02 Statement of Intent

02 Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Music Video

My brief is to produce a music video\ for a popular ballad, made for distribution to a 16-25 year old audience, alongside the accompanying website for the musical artist of the music video. My music video will be targeted towards young adults as that's the social group that are more likely to engage with the music video. To ensure this I have chosen to represent issues amongst young adults in my music video which includes toxic relationships and the affect it has on the mental health of those involved. As this is such a widespread issue amongst young adults, it will appeal to a larger audience as young adults may feel that they're represented through the music video through relatable situations. I am taking inspiration from popular ballad music videos such as CHIHIRO by Billie Eilish with the cinematic close ups, settings and narrative. To create my narrative based around a toxic relationship and mental health, i am using the song Rolling in the Deep as the key connotations of the song includes anger, betrayal and reaching full power after leaving somebody. For my music video, I am using 'rolling in the deep' as a metaphor for being completely immersed in something, mirroring the relationship in the video as being emotionally overwhelming as I am going to portray the relationship as quite obsessive which leads to a toxic relationship as each person becomes unhealthily attached due to the immersion. I am representing oth social groups of young males and females who essentially struggle with mental health issues and their relation ship, From this, I will also be covering men’s mental health as the narrative ends in the male part committing suicide - however, I will still ensure focus is put focus upom the female’s mental health to avid inequality, At the end of the of my music video I will be using an end card which will direct viewers to the website, allowing further engagement as the audience meter acts further with the brand after the music video.

Website

Researching a range of websites of popular ballad musical artists helped create my plan for my final piece, From my research, I have decided to use a soft colour palette, consisting of lilac and the mutual of white and grey, to emphasise the melancholic brand. Furthermore, I concluded that most websites generally only use three colours to display professionalism, but I am also using lilac for some colour, providing brand identity. The name of my musical artists will be at the top of my page, automatically getting the viewers attention - the same font will be used consistently throughput my website to reinforce brand identity and the idea of professionalism. I will be including a range of images on my website that consist of posed photoshoots, pictures from concerts, merchandise and shots from the music video. The page will include a hyperlink to my merchandise page which will be titled as shop, containing albums, vinyls and jewellery for sale to promote the site further with providing products. Additionally, social media links will also be accessible via the website, displaying a wide range of ways to interact with content across media platforms. My audio-visual element will be my music video being on my website which will be easily accessible on the main page under recently released.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

The music video will be displayed immediately after the home page, titled ‘Recently released’ to make it easily accessible to viewers, ensuring it reaches a wide range of audience. The end card at the end of the music video, directs viewers to the website will allow the link between the two media products and encourage further interaction with the brand with memberships, other music and merchandise.
